As many of you know, travel has always been a huge part of my life. And to be honest, as a creative, I think the two go hand in hand, curiosity about the world comes naturally to me. I’ve just returned from East Africa, Kenya, Uganda, Rwanda, Tanzania, and Zanzibar to be precise! As a small business owner, taking a break can be challenging, but this trip left my mind brighter, my ideas fuller, and my heart a little heavier, from all the beauty I’ve witnessed.
Traveling has always been more than just seeing new places, it’s a chance to step outside the familiar, to breathe differently, to let my creativity roam free. This trip felt different though. If you’ve been, you’ll know it’s not easy to leave these countries without some reflection. The people, the noises, the smells, the tastes, and the vibrancy of the natural surroundings, they hit different, in a way that lingers long after you’ve left.

There’s something about being somewhere completely new that awakens your senses. The colours, textures, and light feel richer. The rhythm of daily life moves at a different pace, and suddenly I notice details I might overlook at home… The way a shadow falls across a carved doorway, the warmth of woven fibers, the way a simple room can feel both luxurious and deeply human.
Travel reminds me why I do what I do. My work as a designer isn’t just about furniture or finishes, it’s about creating emotion, feeling, and story in a space. And when I immerse myself in a place so alive with culture, creativity, and authenticity, I return with more than inspiration, I return with a renewed sense of purpose.

Design Lessons I Brought Home
Layered Textures Create Depth
From handwoven baskets to carved wood and intricate textiles, every detail tells a story. Layering materials in a space doesn’t just add interest, it creates feeling, memory, and life.
Natural Light Transforms Mood
Every lodge seemed designed to let light in just so. Sunlight, reflections, shadows, they shape how a space feels in ways no colour palette can. Back home, I strive to capture that same natural drama, so interiors breathe as beautifully as the outside world.
Local Craft Elevates Every Space
The small imperfections in handmade pieces make them feel alive, connected to the hands that created them. I love integrating artisan-made elements into my projects, they give rooms authenticity and soul.
Simplicity Amplifies Intention
Minimal layouts paired with purposeful objects made spaces feel serene yet alive. Every choice matters, form, function, and feeling all woven together.

For me, travel isn’t just a break from life, it’s a creative reset. It reminds me that the world is full of ideas waiting to be noticed, stories waiting to be told through colour, light, and texture. It fuels the way I approach my projects, inspiring interiors that feel thoughtful, personal, and alive.
Bringing Inspiration Into Your Home
I love translating these experiences into spaces that reflect not only my clients’ lifestyles but also a sense of adventure, artistry, and depth. Travel may spark the ideas, but it’s the collaboration with clients that brings them to life, turning inspiration into a home that feels as layered, textured, and alive as the places that inspired it.

If you’re ready to bring globally inspired, emotionally rich design into your own home, let’s connect. Together, we can create spaces that don’t just look beautiful, they feel alive.
