I was making a cuppa for my lovely decorator when we got onto the topic of work, and he asked me how I was finding things in the current climate.
It got me thinking about the value of hiring an interior designer. There is most definitely a misconception that hiring someone like me is only for the ‘elite’, (whatever the ‘elite’ means), or lets instead use the word wealthy. But in fact, having a professionally designed home isn’t about spending ridiculous amounts of money.
So where is the value in hiring someone like me? It’s my job to understand the process, the shortcuts, the pain free routes, bring masses of vision to your project, and to share my network of contacts and suppliers. But most importantly, to provide a wonderful experience and my knowledge to create you a beautiful space that you will love for years to come.
I’m here to bring your vision to life plus some. But also, spend my time, (not yours), on getting you the best bang for you buck. For example, whilst sourcing for a client’s recent bedroom refresh, I came across a stunning occasional armchair from Neptune, but my client didn’t have a Neptune budget so instead I spent my time searching for something similar to that item.
But it isn’t just the items themselves that make a room look and feel ‘professionally’ designed.
Rather than a piecemeal process, which is what I often come across when clients begin projects themselves, a professional approach considers the entire scheme from the get-go. Colours, fabrics, textures, and everything else that completes a harmonious and connected scheme.
After all, anyone can find a perfect table and chairs for a dining room, but it takes a lot more to create a whole scheme so that everything works together.
So, the moral of my story, it’s easier to consider the value of an interior designer as someone who will save you time and money by avoiding costly mistakes. Do it right once – and create something beautiful! That’s what I bring to a project, and I believe in it passionately!
