We were commissioned to undertake the full interior design and renovation of this four-bedroom Victorian family home in Swavesey, Cambridgeshire. The project included space planning, interior architectural design, lighting design, bespoke joinery, and material specification.
We worked closely with the family to develop a considered design scheme that reimagined the home for modern family living while respecting its original Victorian character. Every spatial decision was guided by how the family move, live, and intend to grow within the home.
The renovation was carefully planned in phases to minimise disruption, beginning with the guest bedroom and en-suite, master bedroom, and family bathroom. Each space was designed with a distinct identity, yet the home remains unified through a cohesive palette, layered textures, and refined detailing that enhances its period character.
The key challenge at Station Road was to modernise the home for family living while preserving the charm and elegance of its Victorian architecture. It was essential to create spaces that were practical for a busy family, yet retained the home’s original character. We needed to improve circulation and flow across multiple levels, incorporate modern comforts and storage solutions, and develop bespoke joinery that would feel authentic to the property. Another consideration was designing layered lighting schemes that would suit the different moods and needs of the home, all while phasing the renovation to allow the family to continue living there without disruption. Striking the balance between functional modern living and period integrity was at the heart of this project.
Our approach was deeply lifestyle-led and thoughtful. We began with an assessment of the home’s architecture alongside the family’s routines and future needs, allowing us to understand how they live and how the spaces could evolve. From there, we optimised layouts to improve flow and usability while developing a cohesive concept that married a neutral, layered palette with materials and finishes that celebrated the home’s period features.
Bespoke joinery and architectural detailing were then carefully designed to enhance both character and function. Lighting plans were crafted to layer natural and artificial light, creating atmospheres that shift from day to evening seamlessly. By phasing the works strategically, we ensured the renovation could proceed without major disruption to daily life. Throughout, we maintained a close dialogue with the family, ensuring that every design decision reflected their lifestyle, preferences, and long-term aspirations for the home.
