Tucked away in a quiet corner of Chelsea, Clare Mews is a charming London mews house that hadn’t seen a renovation in several decades. While the bones of the home were solid, its interiors no longer suited modern living, particularly for our client, a busy bachelor who works from home, entertains often, and needed a space that could flex with his lifestyle.
Our brief was to reimagine the home and the way its space worked, creating a thoughtful layout, updating the style, and designing spaces that support working, dining, relaxing, and hosting in equal measure.
THE DESIGN APPROACH
Our starting point was to open up the main living areas. By removing internal walls, we created a spacious open-plan kitchen, dining, and living area that feels connected yet distinct in function. The kitchen received a complete overhaul, balancing streamlined storage with clean, contemporary finishes.
We designed a bespoke workstation tailored to the client’s day-to-day routine, a practical yet considered addition that blends beautifully into the rest of the scheme. The two bathrooms were fully refurbished with trendy, low-maintenance materials and refined fittings, bringing comfort and calm to everyday routines.
Throughout, our approach was led by a desire to future-proof the property, modernising its function while preserving its character.
“This project was all about designing for how our client actually lives. Every square metre needed to work hard — but still feel stylish, easy, and effortless.”
Natasha King, Founder & Principal Designer
THE PROJECT
One of the key challenges, and opportunities, was transforming the original floor plan to better serve the way the client wanted to live. The existing layout was outdated and impractical, so we reconfigured the ground floor to establish a modern open-plan zone that serves multiple functions: a space to cook, dine, work, and relax. Bespoke joinery was designed to maximise storage while maintaining a clean, uncluttered aesthetic. Throughout, we paid careful attention to scale, sightlines, and lighting, ensuring that each area felt distinct but cohesive. The bathrooms were stripped back to their shell and rebuilt with high-quality finishes, adding comfort and a sense of understated luxury. The result is a home that feels purposeful, elegant, and truly tailored to its owner.
