If you’ve been looking at working with an Interior Designer, I’m sure you’ve heard the terms ‘sourcing ad procurement’ and have probably been wondering what it means.
So, let me break down the jargon for you…
Sourcing is the process of researching and selecting suppliers and retailers who produce the FF&E (furniture, fixtures & equipment) required to achieve the design concept we have developed for you. Sometimes these will be off the shelf, sometimes bespoke, it will depend on the requirements.
Procurement is the process of specifying the order details, arranging quotations, reviewing and placing the orders.
Why is sourcing & procurement part of our process?
If you choose our full interior design experience, both sourcing & procurement are part of the process. This is because this service is an end-to-end experience, meaning we handle the all elements of your project for you through to completion and handover.
Also, by us handling this process it's likely we can save time and assure satisfaction. We’ve spent years attending trade shows, visiting supplier workshops, developing relationships, and researching products to make sure we have the know-how on finding the best quality products, keeping the project on budget, on track and running seamlessly until the very end.
So yes, it may all sound simple, yet this stage can be a logistical nightmare unless it’s well managed and coordinated by an expert.
Why is this stage important to the project outcome?
The interior design process is (believe it or not) a complex one, hence why we exist! The process involves many stages, sourcing and procurement, being just one part of that.
Whereas the first part of the process is more creative, the second part becomes more technical. Once the design is created, presented and approved by the client, a lot of ‘stuff' must happen to bring a design to life. Souring and procurement of FF&E is time consuming and intense, it’s a crucial part of the process that can often come with obstacles and problems along the way.
So why it is better to let us handle this part of the process?
As mentioned, there is a lot is 'stuff' that happens behind the scenes which often our clients don't even realise! We purposely make sure the highest level of quality is delivered at all times, which also means we keep any stress away from you! By us handling this process we also handle all supplier communication, coordination, and any issues that may happen along the way.
“Our experience means we have the know how to select FF&E based on client needs and requests, so in this stage, the client will save time and money.”
Hopefully that’s helped clear things up but if you want to know more about the process get in touch, I’m happy to have a chat about your project and how we can create a bespoke process that’s right for you and you project.
